EROTIC ECONOMIES
Erotic Economies is a journal of commodity, culture, and connections (money, art, and sex).
“As gift exchange is an erotic commerce, joining self and other, so the gifted state is an erotic state: in it we are sensible of, and participate in, the underlying unity of things.”
– Lewis Hyde, The Gift: Creativity and the Artist in the Modern World
We conceived of Erotic Economies as a multimedia “expanded” publication platform for exploring, through art and essays, the intersections of the economic (in the sense of systems which govern exchange) and the erotic (in Herbert Marcuse and Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick’s transgressive sense of the term). Each time we launch a journal, we organize events, screenings, conversations and other exchanges centered on these topics.
